Our Mission

National security needs technology and innovation yet far too many are falling into the Valley of Death.

The Indo Pacific region is heating up faster than the Department of Defense can transform itself into a more nimble buyer of innovations.

To close this gap, we founded Pacific Impact Zone Solutions (PIZ). We’re building an ecosystem to pull small and commercial innovators out of the Valley of Death in time to meet the needs of the Indo Pacific.

Our Story

We are proudly headquartered in Hawaii, home to the nation’s largest concentration of military commands outside of the Pentagon and its strategic location for the Indo Pacific.

Kevin and Bernice are “products” of the late Senator Daniel K. Inouye, who invested heavily in Hawaii’s future as a critical national security asset in the Pacific. Kevin’s roots are deeply planted in technology and entrepreneurship while Bernice’s foundation is laid in decades long domestic and international partnerships and large scale economic development.

Together, they founded Pacific Impact Zone Solutions to scale businesses by arming them with business acumen, needs pull over tech push, and trusted partnerships to break down barriers.

Bernice and Kevin experienced first-hand the challenges, and opportunities, of building small businesses based on technological innovation. Bernice saw it as an economic development manager and seeing a recurring pattern of small business owners struggle to reach critical mass. And Kevin experienced the ups and downs as a first-time technology entrepreneur in launching his business, TeraSys Technologies, which informs much of the strategy and services of Pacific Impact Zone Solutions.

  • 2007

    Kevin started TeraSys out of his bedroom in 2007, marking the beginning of his startup journey

  • 2008

    TeraSys wins its first SBIR to solve the military’s problem of high power jammers interfering with radios and launches head-first into solving complex R&D while building operational processes for accounting, HR, and supply chain management all at the same time

  • 2012

    We leveraged every method for rapid acquisition (JUONS authority), securing commercial gap funding (state matching), and good old fashioned hustle, to rapidly demonstrate product market fit and win opportunities to install our products into OEM systems

  • 2015

    Terasys faced its first major downturn, forcing a rapid pivot to new products and adjacent markets, with Kevin finally learning how to work “on” the business instead of “in” the business

  • 2018

    TeraSys is acquired by QuinStar Technology, marking the successful end of Kevin’s journey as an entrepreneur

About the MAC National Network

Pacific Impact Zone Solutions is a proud partner of the MAC National Network. Together, we span the United States and reach into the Indo Pacific region to partner with Allied Nations such as Japan and Australia.

MAC helps national security government partners attract and procure products and services from the private sector, especially non-traditional sources of innovation such as startups and small businesses. The MAC physical colocation spaces near federal installations foster technology development, refinement, and integration of solutions between the end user and the innovators.

Each MAC is a unique instantiation reflective of the strengths and needs of its regional ecosystem while serving as a unified front door - entering any MAC location provides visitors with the full suite of access, programs, and support across the entire MAC National Network.
